Ever since I was a first grader who had just moved to Massachusetts from Virginia I immediately started learning about the colonization of the Americas. However most, if not all of what I have been taught was somewhat of a lie.

I was told that the Puritans were in search of religious freedom when they went off on their journey to the present day United States. In truth they went there because they thought that land was their God-given right. That they deserved to live their more than the Natives who had spent their lives there for generation upon generation. Once they set foot on land the Natives, who had already known about the countless massacres at the hand of Christopher Columbus, weren't sure if they wanted to risk their lives and make a greeting. Eventually the inevitable happened and the two peoples met each other. It wasn't all thanksgiving parties and fun times however. In fact it was overwhelmingly the exact opposite. The Native Americans were killed, as much as they were traded with, and were often used as a part of the trades themselves.

What I would like to do is change the happy go lucky version of the history children are often taught, into, simply, the truth. The original Americans weren't innocent people just looking for God, they were, at times, cruel, and disgusting people.
