Senators Crapo and Wyden, do your job! Stop tariffs!

Senators Crapo and Wyden, do your job! Stop tariffs!
The Issue
Tariffs are a tax on low-income consumers and close off the global market to small business owners, farmers, and exporters to do business. Contrary to what Trump says, tariffs are not paid by foreign companies or foreign governments; they're paid by American companies that import foreign goods, who then pass those costs on to consumers. When tariffs are reciprocated by foreign countries, they lower demand and profits for American goods. Tariffs increase poverty and inequality and decrease global cooperation.
It's not just prices that are impacted. Imposing tariffs is the right of Congress, not the President. President Trump has been imposing tariffs unconstitutionally by declaring that they're part of emergency powers. Congress can reverse these tariffs. That's why we're urging Congress, in particular the heads of the Senate Finance Committee, Sen. Mike Crapo (R-ID) and Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR), to force resolutions to end Trump's tariff games and restore the checks and balances of the American government.
These tariffs have devastating economic consequences. They hurt consumers by taxing goods we buy. They hurt small business owners who don't have the means to manufacture things in America. They hurt farmers and exporters trying to sell their goods abroad. They hurt retirees who rely on the stock market for their retirement. They erode the trust of other countries in our economy and in our governance. They give comfort to autocrats who want to diminish checks on their power. Each day that Congress fails to act, more instability and uncertainty lead us closer to recession. Crapo, Wyden, and Congress--do your job!
