On June 30, 2022, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife identified at least a dozen Southern Resident Orcas that are in poor or threatened condition. This means they are at two to three times higher risk of dying!
J27-Blackberry, 31 year old son of the famed J1-Ruffles, is one of those at risk, having lost lots of weight recently. At this moment, only 75 Southern Residents remain.
If you care about the Snake River, its wild salmon, or Southern Resident orcas that depend upon salmon, NOW is the time to speak up, while the Biden Administration and regional elected leaders ponder this month whether to act, or not.
Contacting the White House and the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) could trigger a tipping point and encourage President Biden to do the right thing: breach the four lower Snake River dams now, beginning this December. It is critical. Salmon and orcas cannot wait. Their extinction is happening on our watch. Future generations are depending on us.
