Hi All. I just wanted to post an update on the Lancaster Dog, posted by someone following the situation very closely:
***I would like to take a moment and address the situation with the dog in Lancaster. As many know, animal advocates receive numerous reports on a daily basis. And in some situations need to act quickly to bring awareness based on the information given and then we continue on with a full investigation. Not only did I speak with the ACO but Maggie Cunningham and I did have the opportunity to go to the home and meet with Bella and the family to assess the situation first hand.
There was a very unfortunate incident where a 15 yr old child in a rush to School forgot to let Bella in the house. Bella was out for about 2 1/2 - 3 hours when a neighbor contacted the ACO. The ACO arrived immediately and was able to reach the owner who left work and arrived within 5 mins to secure Bella and put her in the house. During this time Bella was left out she did have access to the garage as this is the entrance to and from the home to the yard.
This incident yes is inexcusable but was an accident. When something like this happens it causes very high emotions with animal lovers and unfortunately causes people to see things that are not actually what they are.
One picture that was posted given to an advocate by a neighbor, from the height and the angle, could appear to be a “makeshift dog house” however actually going into the yard and seeing for myself it is an old desk waiting to be thrown out. (Pic posted below)
I CAN ONLY STATE ON WHAT WE ACTUALLY WITNESSED. Bella is very healthy, happy and appears to love playing in the snow. I know there were some reports that she was skinny and malnourished as you can see from the video and pictures this is not the case she in my opinion is a little over weight. Bella seems to be a well cared for spoiled girl.
Animal rescuers and advocates rely on our community to report incidences and we can’t always drop everything and run this is why we have ACO, DCO, SPCA and the police which need to be contacted regardless. And I do get when someone becomes emotional about a situation they have witnessed it heightens everything. So what I’m trying to say here is yes the neighbor did the right thing by calling the ACO when Bella was accidentally left out and BASED on the information provided to animal advocates from the neighbor it appeared awareness needed to be made quickly.
But after investigating fully I believe this was an unfortunate accident. The child is extremely upset that his irresponsible action has caused his family a lot of stress. Bella appears healthy, happy and well cared for.
Again I can only state what we actually witnessed however we will continue to monitor the situation to make sure this was a one time incident. ***
I appreciate all the phone calls etc made on her behalf. I will continue to post these cases through this petition, as I feel it's a great way to take action. When a bunch of people come together for a cause, great things can happen❤.
Please continue to share this petition. I'm hoping to get over 50,000 before submitting to the recipients above again.
Lastly, when I'm not involved in saving animals at NYC kill shelters, I'm also a licensed wildlife rehabilitator in MA. If you'd like to follow my rescues, you can do so here:https://m.facebook.com/Natures-Nurse-Wildlife-Rehabilitation-158077221600230/
