With politicians in Washington gearing up to cut Social Security benefits and raise the retirement age, hand Medicare over to private insurance companies, and slash Medicaid for seniors, women, children and people with disabilities, it is time to take a stand. Those whose annual income exceeds $106,800 pay no social security taxes on any money they make above that cap, so there is no reason to let them take away money from the people who have earned it when the rich are not paying their fair share. Many Americans desperately depend on their Social Security benefits to ensure their future survival and it is hard working people like these who are shouldering the majority of Social Security payments. Social Security belongs to the people who have worked hard all their lives and contributed to the program. It does not belong to politicians in Washington who want to use it as a piggy bank to fund tax cuts for the rich and bailouts for Wall Street. We deserve what we have paid for! Virginians, tell Mark Warner to stand up for your rights and protect Social Security. Scrap the cap for a fair and effective way to ensure the future of this life saving program.
