Deny zoning variances for proposed cell tower at First Baptist Sweetwater
The Issue
We, the undersigned residents of Seminole County, Fla., attest that we are in opposition to zoning exceptions and variances related to the installation of a cell tower at First Baptist Sweetwater Church in Longwood. Placement of this tower would be inconsistent with the character of highly residential neighborhoods surrounding the site and would adversely affect property values. Also the homes and the proposed tower site are adjacent to the 7,800-acre Wekiwa Springs State Park with many kinds of wildlife, and a tower is out of scale and in great contrast to the surrounding aesthetic of the existing natural landscape. The site is adjacent to private property containing a gopher tortoise habitat, a protected species in the state of Florida. We believe that there are other more appropriate sites that are not as intrusive to residential neighborhoods. If the county allows this tower to be constructed in this location, the precedent will be set and additional towers will be erected in close proximity to residential homes. We call upon the Seminole County Board of Adjustment and the Seminole County Commission to defend our zoning plan and deny any requests by First Baptist Sweetwater and/or Tarpon Towers LLC for zoning exceptions and variances related to a cell tower at 3800 Wekiva Springs Road, Longwood, Florida.
