Petition for Global Accountability and Cooperation to Protect Democracy and Freedom

In a world interconnected by shared values of human rights, democracy, and the rule of law, we, the undersigned, call on world leaders to take a stand against any perceived threats to these principles, wherever they may arise. This includes acting decisively to ensure accountability for leaders, individuals, and corporations who may undermine these values, regardless of their nationality or influence.

The Request:

We urge the governments of the world to:

 

Investigate and Act Against Corruption and Abuses of Power: Commit to thorough investigations of financial, political, or legal misconduct by American leaders, business magnates, or other influential individuals within their jurisdictions. Where evidence supports it, take lawful measures, including freezing or seizing assets linked to these activities. Specifically, we call for investigations into the actions of recently elected U.S. President Donald Trump and Elon Musk, whose activities have raised concerns about their impact on democratic norms and fairness.

Promote Accountability Across Borders: Recognize that no single nation can tackle corruption, authoritarianism, or abuses of power in isolation. International cooperation, such as through mechanisms like sanctions or asset seizures, should be employed to hold individuals accountable where their actions harm global democracy, human rights, or security. This includes addressing concerns about the influence of Donald Trump and Elon Musk on the stability and freedom against the citizens of the United States.

Support the Citizens of the United States and Beyond: Apply these principles impartially, ensuring that leaders and individuals from all nations are held to the same standards. By taking action against perceived threats to democracy within the United States, world leaders demonstrate solidarity with citizens of the U.S. in their pursuit of justice, fairness, and democratic ideals.

Our Rationale:

Recent global events have underscored the need for international solidarity in upholding democratic norms and protecting freedoms. When individuals in positions of power—whether political leaders or influential businesspeople—are perceived to act against the principles of democracy and human rights, it undermines global trust in these values.

Project 2025 is not only a domestic concern but a global one. Its execution would weaken the United States' position as a defender of democracy and a reliable ally. Such a shift would embolden authoritarian regimes worldwide, disrupt international trade and security agreements, and undermine the collective effort to uphold democratic values in an increasingly interconnected world.

Project 2025 would significantly impact internationalism by undermining multilateral institutions and agreements. A shift toward unilateralism could see the U.S. withdrawing from or weakening its commitment to global accords such as climate agreements, trade pacts, and arms treaties. This approach might erode the effectiveness of international organizations like the United Nations and the World Health Organization, even UNICEF, limiting their ability to address global challenges. By prioritizing domestic over international concerns, the agenda risks weakening progress the global community has made with the help of the leadership the United States.

The global economy would also face disruptions under Project 2025, particularly through protectionist trade policies and a retreat from free trade agreements. These measures could lead to trade wars, destabilize global supply chains, and raise costs for businesses and consumers worldwide. Emerging economies that rely heavily on access to U.S. and other free markets and investments could be particularly vulnerable, leading to slower growth and increased inequality. Furthermore, rolling back commitments to renewable energy in favor of fossil fuels might hinder the global transition to sustainable energy, exacerbating climate and economic instability.

Project 2025 would present challenges to global security and democracy by weakening international alliances and partnerships. A reduction in U.S. involvement with organizations like NATO could embolden authoritarian regimes and destabilize regions dependent on U.S. security guarantees. A diminished emphasis on arms control could further increase the risk of nuclear proliferation. Simultaneously, deprioritizing democracy and human rights in favor of strategic interests could erode global norms, discourage democratic movements, and strengthen autocratic leaders.

Project 2025 risks undermining the United States' long-standing role as a global leader in cultural, scientific, and technological advancement—an influence that has been a cornerstone of its international standing. U.S. leadership in fostering innovation, driving collaborative research, and addressing global crises has historically set a benchmark for progress worldwide. Reduced engagement, particularly through cuts to foreign aid and diminished participation in international research and technology partnerships, could weaken the nation's capacity to contribute to breakthroughs that benefit humanity. Moreover, stepping back from cultural and scientific diplomacy and development initiatives may erode the U.S.'s ability to shape global conversations and foster mutual understanding, leaving a void in leadership that could be filled by nations with differing values and priorities. This potential shift in influence reflects a diminished commitment to the cooperative progress that has defined the modern era and benefitted the global community. 

To address this, we propose action in two key ways:

Asset Accountability: Temporarily freezing or seizing assets linked to individuals found to be undermining American democracy, either directly or indirectly. This ensures that wealth or influence cannot shield them from accountability. In this regard, we specifically call for actions concerning the assets of Donald Trump and Elon Musk in nations where their influence is perceived to harm democratic values or citizens' freedoms.

Global Leadership by Example: Democracies worldwide must demonstrate that accountability is universal and not confined by borders. Taking action against abuses of power is not an intervention in sovereignty but a defense of shared principles that bind us as a global community.

A Call to World Leaders:

We acknowledge the challenges posed by such actions but believe they are essential to creating a fairer, more just world. Leaders who have demonstrated a commitment to these values are urged to lead by example, demonstrating that no one is above the law, and that democracy is worth protecting—for their citizens and for the global community.
