The Issue

On a fateful night, my life was forever altered by a reckless decision. I was in a car accident caused by a drunk driver who left me at the scene, injured and unconscious. While he managed to escape, I was left to deal with the aftermath, which was not just physical but emotional and financial as well. My body suffered extensively, with numerous broken bones, a significant facial laceration leading to a noticeable scar, damaged teeth, and I was confined in a neck brace for three months.

Drunk driving is not just reckless; it’s criminal. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), about 28 people in the United States die every day in drunk-driving crashes — that's one person every 52 minutes. These are not just statistics, but countless lives affected by a senseless choice.

This petition seeks justice—not just for me, but for everyone who has suffered due to drunk driving. Our goal is to urge local law enforcement and legislative bodies to take stronger actions in holding drunk drivers accountable. This includes stricter penalties for those who flee accident scenes and ensuring victims get the justice and support they deserve.

Moreover, it's crucial to implement preventive measures such as increased sobriety checkpoints and public awareness campaigns to curb this rampant issue. Stories like mine should serve as a wake-up call for our communities to demand an end to leniency towards drunk driving offenders.

This isn't just about punishment—it's about prevention and protection. By signing this petition, you stand with me in promoting safer roads and a supportive legal system for victims. Let’s make sure what happened to me doesn’t happen to someone else. Please sign and support this cause for justice and change. Together, we can make a difference and put an end to the scourge of drunk driving.
