The Fight For Rosebud's Life Continues!

Hello everybody, and thank you for your ongoing support.

Rosebud continues to fight for her life! Over the past three weeks, she has made meaningful progress in her training program, guided by an outside trainer with input from staff who work with her directly. She has participated in multiple pack walks, met unfamiliar dogs along the way, and gone on store outings where she interacted calmly and affectionately with both people and dogs. At every outing, she has done amazing, with absolutely no concerns.

Unfortunately, the training program has now been paused before the final week could be completed, and she is no longer able to continue these outings, interactions, or work with the trainer at this time, following a decision made by the Executive Director.

This decision was made without consultation with the trainer who has been directly working with Rosebud and documenting her progress. As a result, the trainer has been fully removed from the ongoing process, despite the important role they have played in her recent improvement. This has been difficult for those involved in her care, especially given the very positive direction Rosebud has been heading.

A new behaviorist is scheduled to evaluate Rosebud this Monday, May 4th. At this time, there has been no discussion with the staff who work with her daily or with the trainer who has been directly involved in her progress. It is also important to note that this behaviorist has close professional ties to the previous behaviorist who made the initial recommendation.

Even with these setbacks, there is still real hope moving forward. Rosebud’s recent progress has shown clear improvement and a strong capacity to succeed when given structure, consistency, and support. Those who know her best remain committed to seeing her continue on this positive path. Many also feel strongly that she should never have been placed on a euthanasia list, given her response to training and the progress she has demonstrated.
