"See It, Stop It": Keep School CCTV On and Monitored!

"See It, Stop It": Keep School CCTV On and Monitored!
The Issue
Our school should be a safe place where students can learn and teachers can teach without fear. However, schools across the Philippines continue to face theft and security breaches because surveillance systems like CCTV are often not turned on or actively monitored.
In May 2024, thieves broke into Suyo National High School in Ilocos Norte and stole laptops, hard drives, and cash. They also took the CCTV hard drive, erasing all footage that could have helped identify the culprits. There was no security guard on duty at the time (GMA Regional TV News, 2024).
In November 2024, a man was caught on school CCTV in Bocaue, Bulacan, stealing ₱120,000 in cash from a teacher’s classroom. The incident happened because there was no proper oversight (PhilNews, 2024).
Another case shows an unidentified suspect entering a school classroom and stealing a teacher’s bag. The CCTV captured the event, but no one was actively monitoring the cameras to prevent it (PhilNews, 2025).
These incidents show that CCTV equipment alone is not enough. To effectively protect students, teachers, and school property, cameras must be kept on and actively monitored. Studies and security experts note that CCTV cameras deter crime and provide crucial evidence when incidents occur, helping create safer school environments (Change.org, 2024).
This petition is addressed to the school principal, who has the authority to make the necessary changes.
The goals of this petition are:
1. Keep all CCTV cameras switched on at all times, especially during school hours and after school activities.
2. Assign trusted personnel to actively monitor the CCTV system 24/7, or at least during all school hours and high-risk periods.
Active CCTV monitoring not only deters theft and vandalism, it allows for immediate response when incidents occur. Students, teachers, and staff deserve a safe school environment where learning and teaching can happen without fear.
Sign this petition to demand that our CCTV system works as a real safety measure for everyone in our school!
