On March 11th, 2024, The Highschool of science and Technology in Springfield MA was infiltrated by a gunman and shots were discharged into the school, impacting students mentally and physically. Increasing security was one of the first improvements made but we need to take a step back and understand the underlying problem, Student mental health. The sandy hook elementary school shooting was in incident caused by mental illness as well as the Virgina tech, and Marjory stoneman Douglas school shootings. With the perpetrator being diagnosed with depression, anxiety, mental disabilities, ect.  We want to take a step back and revaluate counselor approach, hiring more counselor and making sure every student connects with at least one, so students feel seen and supported, lowering the probability of events like these happening in the future. School shooting accounts have been rising all over America and if small changes can lead to a bigger impact, we need to take ACTION!!!!!
