Secure Government Funding for Wildlife Rehab Facilities

The Issue

In 2009, I founded a state-licensed, self-funded Rehabilitation Hospital in New York, dedicating my life to rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing our native wildlife. Over the years, my team and I have witnessed countless animals in distress due to habitat loss, environmental pollution, and human interference. Despite our dedication, limited resources often constrain our operations at this pivotal juncture where wildlife needs us the most.

Licensed wildlife rehabilitation facilities serve a critical role in preserving biodiversity and maintaining balanced ecosystems. We care for injured, endangered and orphaned wild animals, mitigate human-wildlife conflicts and provide educational programs to raise awareness about conservation efforts. However, despite our significant contributions to wildlife and community welfare, funding remains a persistent challenge.

Currently, all wildlife rehabilitation centers rely heavily on donations, grants, and out-of-pocket expenses to keep their services running. Given the drastic cuts in wildlife funding and increasing number of animals needing help, it is becoming unsustainable. Government funding is essential for us to continue our vital work effectively. Providing financial support to licensed rehab centers will ensure that we have the necessary resources for proper medical care, food supplies, and equipment, ultimately increasing the survival rate of our native wildlife.

Statistics show that for every dollar invested in wildlife rehabilitation, hundreds of dollars in ecosystem and community benefits are returned. For instance, by rehabilitating and releasing predators like raptors, we help manage populations of pests as they return to their natural roles in controlling rodent and insect populations. Wildlife rehabilitation also contributes to research and education, fostering a new generation of conservationists committed to safeguarding our natural world.

The government has a responsibility to protect and preserve our natural heritage. By allocating funds to support wildlife rehabilitation facilities, they reaffirm their commitment to conservation and ecological integrity. We urge lawmakers to recognize the indispensable role of wildlife rehab centers and to allocate necessary funds to support their operations.

This is a call to action! Advocate for these vital facilities by signing this petition, ensuring they can continue serving our public by helping our ecosystem stay healthy and help our wildlife by preserving the natural beauty of our region for future generations. Your support can drive meaningful change and help secure the much-needed funding to sustain these sanctuary efforts. Sign this petition and stand with us in our mission to save and protect New York's native wildlife.
