The Issue

As a dedicated resident and feline rescuer in Butler County, OH, I have witnessed firsthand the challenges posed by the overpopulation of stray and feral cats in our community. These cats, though often overlooked, deserve compassion and a chance for a better life. A proven and humane method to manage and reduce their numbers is the Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program.

TNR programs are vital because they significantly decrease the overall population of stray and feral cats by preventing unwanted litters. This not only improves the quality of life for the cats but also aligns with public health goals by reducing potential risks of disease. Furthermore, TNR programs can lead to fewer disturbances in neighborhoods as sterilized cats are less likely to exhibit disruptive behaviors, such as yowling or fighting over territory.

Currently, Butler County lacks sufficient funding to support a county-wide TNR program. This leaves many volunteers overwhelmed and our efforts scattered, slowing down progress and putting unnecessary hardships on both the cats and community members trying to help. In other areas where TNR programs are properly funded and implemented, communities have seen a dramatic reduction in stray cat populations, leading to healthier environments for both humans and animals.

We are calling on the Butler County Commissioners and local government to allocate necessary funds and resources to establish a comprehensive TNR program. We believe that with appropriate financial support, volunteers and local organizations can work more effectively to address the issue, creating a more sustainable and humane solution for all.

Your signature on this petition will help advocate for the necessary funding and show community leaders that there is a strong public demand for a responsible and compassionate approach to controlling our stray cat population. Let's ensure that Butler County becomes a model for effective animal welfare practices.

Sign this petition to urge our leaders to fund a much-needed Trap-Neuter-Return program and give both the cats and our community a chance at a harmonious coexistence.
