The Issue

Many autistic individuals face significant challenges in achieving financial independence. These challenges often stem from societal barriers, lack of understanding, and inadequate support systems which needs immediate change. This is not something to stay complacent about. I am starting this petition because I have witnessed the profound struggle of autistic individuals who are prevented from accessing opportunities to live independent and fulfilling lives. To prevent inhumanity, we must address these systemic issues.

Autistic individuals possess unique talents and capabilities that are often overlooked in traditional employment settings. They not only deserve but must have equal rights to basics such as safe employment spaces and financial independence.

Despite these statistics, autistic people face an unemployment rate estimated to be as high as 80-90%, according to the National Autistic Society. This figure is harmful and petitioning for this to be removed so that autistic individuals are treated fairly and with respect. This must change, with inhumane psychological abuse, bullying, harassment and forcing out behaviours eradicated from workplaces and pip system processes. The affect on individuals is inhumane, causes damage and sustainable pathways in career and employment pathways essential throughout life.

To tackle this issue, I propose the implementation of comprehensive policies and programs that support autistic individuals in achieving financial independence. Including a change to the Personal Indepence Program, removing harmful questioning and playing out of autistic people in the workplace. I want to remove fear in society for autistic people, entitlement to financial support and better understanding regarding fluctuating conditions. Allowing those to live without fear and to adopt the attitude that PIP is an indepence tool used for autistic people to assist their personal indepence. By removing indepence then this makes autistic people more vulnerable to abuse. Systemic discrimantory attitudes should not be placed upon the autistic individual.

By supporting this petition, you are advocating for a society that values diversity, inclusivity, and dignity for all individuals, regardless of neurological differences.  Sign this petition to urge policymakers to prioritize these necessary steps for change.
