Secure a Presidential Pardon for Derek Chauvin

Secure a Presidential Pardon for Derek Chauvin
The Issue
Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer who was convicted on charges of second and third degree murder, as well as manslaughter in the death of George Floyd, has sparked a national conversation on the justice system. We put forward this petition seeking a presidential pardon for Derek Chauvin. The objective of this petition is not to undermine the veracity of the judicial process, but to illustrate the dividing lines drawn in our society and to stimulate thoughtful dialog about the justice system that finds balance between upholding law and ensuring fair trials even under intense public scrutiny. Public opinion should not predetermine the outcome of a legal proceeding. As much as we strive for justice for the victims, we should also acknowledge the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. This petition does not aim at condoning the act but at prompting a review of what might have been extenuating circumstances and the highly charged environment surrounding the trial. We urge for a reconsideration of the case and a presidential pardon for Derek Chauvin. Please sign this petition to let our voices be heard.
