Dr. O'Connell, a beloved family physician who has served the Greely community for over 40 years, is retiring on July 1st, 2024. This leaves over 3000 patients without a primary healthcare provider. The impact of this loss cannot be overstated as family physicians play an essential role in maintaining the health and wellbeing of our community members. According to the Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ), approximately 15% of Canadians do not have access to regular healthcare providers, which can lead to serious health implications (CMAJ, 2019). We urge the City of Ottawa and Province of Ontario to take immediate action in ensuring that these residents are not left without crucial medical care by providing a new family physician for our community.
