I am a Digital Forensics Analyst and Cyber Investigator residing in South Africa, deeply committed to the welfare and safety of our community.
The purpose of this petition is to bring to the attention of the Honorable Minister of Police concerning delays in the Section 205 network data retrieval Procedure, which is adversely impacting law enforcement efforts, leading to the escape of criminals, delayed justice, and the tardy resolution of missing persons cases.
I am aware that Section 205 of the Criminal Procedure Act empowers law enforcement agencies to request information from telecommunication service providers, a crucial tool in investigations and ensuring public safety.
It has been nothing short of a nightmare dealing with the  processing time for Section 205 requests by telecommunications networks is unreasonably long, resulting in critical delays in obtaining crucial information necessary for criminal investigations.
These delays have led to the escape of criminals, hindering the effective administration of justice and compromising public safety. Additionally, in missing persons cases, the delayed access to information has often resulted in tragic consequences due to untimely responses.
I believe that addressing this issue promptly is of utmost importance to ensure the efficiency of law enforcement and to protect the safety and well-being of the citizens of South Africa.
In light of the above, I respectfully request the Honorable Minister of Police to:

a. Investigate and address the causes of the delays in the processing of Section 205 requests. b. Implement measures to expedite the handling of such requests. c. Collaborate with telecommunications networks to streamline the procedures involved in responding to Section 205 requests.
