The Government impact assessment (What's one of those I hear you cry?) on the Spring Statement suggests that pensioners will be largely unaffected. Really??
But do you realise that:
On Tax:
- If you receive even a small private pension you are already likely to be liable for income tax due to frozen thresholds, and from April 2026 even those with no private pension are likely to become subject to tax
- Any increase in State Pension due to the triple lock will in future be diminished by being subject to tax
- You need to be aware of tax you are liable for, as if it cannot be deducted from a private pension, you may receive an annual bill!!
On disabilities and caring:
- If you are a disabled pensioner on PIP, you may lose your entitlement if reassessed under the new more stringent rules
- If someone you care for loses their PIP entitlement, you could lose your carers' allowance if currently in receipt of this. Will the person you care for need less care?
- Pensioners caring for others automatically lose their carers' allowance although may have a slightly greater entitlement to pension credit
- Unpaid carers save the UK economy an estimated £162 billion per year, and women in their 50s and 60s account for the lion's share of these
- Who do you suppose will take up more of the shortfall as new measures for the disabled come into force and whilst problems with access to the NHS & social care only ever seem to increase?
On pension credit:
- 50sWomen (& men) plus all future pensioners on the full new State Pension ALONE of only £11973/year (from 6 April 2025) are ineligible for pension credit. They are therefore also ineligible for several other associated gateway benefits
- Winter fuel payment has been removed from these already impoverished people
On Equity Release:
- Equity release has increased from £0.79bn in 2011 to £4.8bn in 2021, projected to be £6.5bn by 2025. One wonders how much of this came from 50sWomen struggling to survive an unexpected 6 years with no pension?
- What of your children's inheritance?
Missing National Insurance Fund
- Did 50sWomen bear the brunt of the removal of £271billion from the National Insurance Fund by Government, that appears to have been spent on reducing the national debt?
On the future:
- How long will the freeze on tax thresholds continue, pulling more people into paying tax?
- How long will the triple lock, free bus passes and free prescriptions last?
Following the UK Labour Party Spring Statement, any vulnerable pensioner - notably 3.5m "robbed" and asset-stripped 50sWomen - who fail now to fight for their legal entitlement to their hard-earned dues - are likely to eternally regret it!
How long would the £1-3k max compensation for a few from WASPI expensive litigation last? And be aware that they represent only 7% of 50sWomen who are members & are challenging only the ombudsman's finding of only partial maladministration, whilst ignoring discrimination and refusing to join with CEDAWinLAW for mediation
Will £1-3k for a few represent justice for the discrimination against every single 50sWoman and cover the impact and losses YOU have suffered?
