The recent news that this brilliant man, dedicated to furthering the treatment options, and in thousands of cases reportedly extending prognosis with dignity and quality of life, for cancer patients who have been told there is nothing further that can be done, has been suspended for 9 months is shocking, disproportionate and frankly feels callous. The GMC has its place to protect us all, but this appears a step too far.

Were such sanctions imposed on our brilliant Covid doctors, who were equally using their logic, knowledge, experience and same compassion to save people in the early days of the pandemic, and who still continue to be innovative in their treatments? No, of course not! Why would you actively prevent medical advances - it's madness!

Nobody can ever succeed in medicine 100%, it is not possible. But why is a ratio of thousands to just 12(!) being used as leverage to slap down a life saving doctor?!! Many other high level medical professionals have come out publicly in Professor Stebbing's defence, including those in the US who are notoriously hard to persuade and have on board.

Could professional jealousy and/or pharmaceutical profit risk be at play?

Reinstate this brilliant doctor, innovator, scientist and compassionate human being IMMEDIATELY without recourse and with permission to continue his great work,  before 9 months' worth of cancer patients die waiting for him to be reinstated!

If Professor Stebbing is made to wait 9 months to return, there is a risk he may never return. If he does, he may no longer do any of the groundbreaking work he is known and respected for, for fear of being put through this awful ordeal again. Going abroad is also an option, meaning the NHS will have lost him that way instead.

Or perhaps the GMC would prefer us to return to the days of Socrates and discount all the risky research that has brought us to this point thus far.....
