Adopt an opt-out organ donation policy across the UK

Adopt an opt-out organ donation policy across the UK

The Issue

In the last 10 years more than 6,000 patients in need of transplants – including 270 children – have died waiting for organs.
On 1 December Wales introduced a law deeming all adults to have consented to donate their organs unless they have opted out. This groundbreaking change is expected to increase the number of donors by 25%.
Inspired by Teddy's Story and baby Hope, Britain's youngest organ donors, the Mirror is calling on Mr Hunt to extend the opt-out system to the rest of Great Britain.
