Children suffer daily due to these laws being ignored causing many to self harm or even go as far to take their own life out of desperation.

SEN laws are clearly set out and they are there to protect children with Special needs.

Unfortunately, at present these laws can be ignored by the Local Authority unless you are prepared to take them to court. Many families do not have the funds!

EHC plans are being rejected despite children fitting the criteria. Many times the EHC plans that are issued to SEN children do not reflect their needs causing inadequate school places to be offered. The Local Authority by law are responsible for ensuring the EHC plan reflects the child’s needs. Often, they purposely leave out credible independent reports that state the child’s needs and requirements from SLT, OT and EP’s. The Local Authority know by doing this it will save money! Sadly, it is the children that suffer.

In our case 3 failed school placements traumatised our daughter so much that she attempted to end her life multiple times. Despite many professionals clearly stating the type of provision required to meet her complex needs. These reports were ignored until the Local Authority knew we would be taking them to court and they would lose! This is happening to all families across the UK.

The Local Authority are currently not accountable by any governing body for purposely ignoring SEN laws. The Local ombudsman can only get involved with EHC plan time delays.

I want the government to STOP the Local Authority ignoring SEN laws that are there to protect all children and be accountable for breaking them!

Please sign my petition, don’t let the Local Authority carry on being a law to themselves!

If we help children from the start and put in the right support immediately, this will relieve the pressure on other services such as Ambulance, Fire, Police and Hospitals... We could go on as there are so many that get involved.

Thank you for signing my petition.
