I’m proud to be a Wisconsinite, and lately it feels like we’re fighting for the soul of this state. After Trump won the state by around 20,000 votes in 2016, I breathed a sigh of relief to see that Joe Biden had managed to turn things around.

But the GOP machine is going out of its way to intervene using the GOP-packed court system, even being so bold as to request a recount before the state had even finished counting everyone’s votes.

Recount or not, the Republican party is likely to plan extensive courtroom battles in a bad faith effort to throw out completely legitimate ballots. It’s hard to believe it, but your vote is in danger of being thrown out this year.

“We’re in an environment where lawsuits are filed, legal claims being made – not because of valid legal arguments, but because people want to throw doubt in the mind of voters,” Madison’s city attorney, Michael Haas, said in a recent interview with CBS.

It shouldn’t be controversial to say that every citizen should have a right to have their vote counted!

We’ve faced unprecedented challenges voting in Wisconsin this year. COVID-19 crashed down in full force right as election season began, upending the lives of so many of my friends and neighbors. We are now recording 5,000 new cases a day, and about 1,500 people are hospitalized because of it.

Despite COVID-19, and despite partisan attempts to lower voter turnout, Wisconsin voters have turned out in droves. We must not let any single one of those votes be wasted.
