My name is Britt Stanton, and I am writing to you with a heartfelt plea for clemency on behalf of my husband, Leon Stanton, who is currently serving an excessive 35-year sentence for a non-violent drug offense. With 15 years already served, I believe it is time to grant him a second chance and an opportunity for redemption.

Leon was sentenced to 420 months for the possession of only 22.8 grams of crack cocaine. It is crucial to emphasize that he was never caught selling drugs; his offense was strictly limited to personal possession. The punishment he faces is grossly disproportionate to the nature of his crime, particularly since there were no control buys involved in his case. At the time of his sentencing, he was subjected to the unjust 18:1 sentencing ratio, and his sentence was not reduced under the 782 amendment due to being classified as a career offender.

Throughout his time in prison, Leon has shown remarkable dedication to personal growth and rehabilitation. He has completed over 40 programs and is currently halfway through the Challenge Program—a cognitive behavioral initiative where he is set to become a mentor upon completion. His commitment to self-improvement is evident as he actively engages in self-help literature and prepares business plans to re-enter society as an entrepreneur. He is also enrolled in the Blackstone Career Paralegal Program, where he has achieved an impressive score of 90% on his assignments, having completed four lessons thus far. Additionally, Leon is studying for his CDL license so he can take the test upon his release, further demonstrating his readiness to reintegrate into society.

Leon is not just a prisoner; he is a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who yearns to reunite with our family and contribute positively to our community. He has the potential to be a valuable asset to society, and we must allow him the opportunity to rebuild his life and support his loved ones.

I respectfully urge you to consider Leon Stanton's case for clemency. Granting him this chance would not only bring justice to an unjust situation but also reflect a commitment to compassion and the belief in the possibility of redemption.
