Fair Income for Filipino Farmers

The Issue

The sun sears his already burnt skin. "Kulang pa", Mang Domeng muttered under his breath. The tiredness can be seen from the poor farmer's eyes though he remains unbowed. He heard a loud thump by the tree line, even his carabao kneeled, but Old Domeng would have none of it and he quickly grabbed the animal's collar and urged it to stand. Twice he tried, and both times he failed. He took a deep breath worked alone, he cannot blame his trusted farm hand for he too, is at his limit.

As the sun descended amidst the horizon, the farmer gathered all his yield and set off towards town. "175 Pesos", the man with glasses told him. Domeng cannot believe it, "175? Halos isang kabang palay iyan, hindi ba nagkamali ka?". The man then pointed at his phone and showed him the prices. Even though Domeng did not understand what the buyer showed him, he knew well that he was right. He turned his back and rode off home to rest and start another backbreaking day. "Magtanim ay di-biro, pero katawa-tawa ang bayad", he smiled.

Mang Domeng is but one of the millions of farmers in the Philippines sufferring in silence. Honest Filipinos such as him, endure scorching droughts and ravaging floods just to feed their families.

All we ask is fair and just pay for our labor. We as citizens of this country deserve to be treated the same as city workers.

We demand fair salaries.

WE DEMAND JUSTICE!
