Set Seaworld Animals Free!

The Issue

While keeping sea lions, walrus', penguins, dolphins and different types of whales captive for entertainment, SeaWorld is robbing these sea creatures of the life they deserve in the wild.

Since Seaworld's opening on December 15, 1973 it has welcomed unimaginable numbers of people into its parks. I myself visited Seaworld Orlando as a child and watched dolphins somersault in the air, jump through hoops and watched an orca whale balance a woman on its nose. It was only as an adult I realised how these sea creatures must have been captured from their natural environments to be effectively exploited and used just for human entertainment. It's not so magical and spectacular thinking about it now...

I learnt the true nature of Seaworld's solely profitable intentions and moral standpoint on their captive animals when I saw the aerial image of Seaworld's carpark; which is larger than the enclosure for the orcas kept there. And that, for many people like myself, poses a immoral problem. Sea life should be exactly that: living in the sea.

Seaworld has agreed to stop breeding orcas in recent years, but they haven't agreed to stop capturing more once the ones in the enclosure die. So the likelihood is, they will be replaced by new captures from the wild, young if they can, so they can teach them and therefore be used as entertainment. Which will mean the unnatural entertainment continues.

The park includes rides and other attractions that keep the public entertained without having to use and exploit animals in this way. If Seaworld does the right thing and releases the animals back into the wild and the sea lion, dolphin and whale 'shows' close, the space that was used for them can be utilised in a different ways and in a way that does not exploit sea life, whether it be inputting more rides, restaurants, or other attractions similar to Sesame Street Land.

Thank you for reading my petition to release Seaworld's sea lions, walrus', penguins, dolphins and whales back into the wild. Please don't forget to share and sign.
