Due to a recent incident of some kids at Hamilton Middle School, Seattle, WA, phones are now banned in all Seattle Schools (phone policies varry from school to school). A history teacher at this middle school falsely told the students that by supporting Pewdiepie they could possibly end up in jail. After a clip of this incident went viral on Twitter, the school made a decision to ban phone use during school hours.

Phones are a very innovative to the learning experience, allowing kids to be able to access information with out having to dig through a library. Phones can also store books on them so students do not have to carry around multiple heavy objects. In some Seattle schools, even kindles are being banned. As a student at Eckstein Middle School (a fellow Seattle Public School) this has greatly effected my learning. Often times I used to take pictures of the white board so that I could create albums in my phone to study with but now even the academic use of cell phones is banned. The goal of this petition is to allow phones, kindles, electronics ect., and if possible, get this petition to LWAIY to have PewDiePie himself shout it out. Us 9 year olds must unite to get phones unbaned from Seattle Schools once and for all

OUR OPINIONS AND GOALS:

Before this whole thing happened phones weren't allowed at my school  to use phones unless a teacher told us that we could have them out to read, take a picture of the board, look something up, read an assigned artical, play kahoot and many more things like that. However, after this whole incident, kids weren't even allowed to use phones for academic purposes. Before we used phones as a resource. Whether you like it or not technology is the future so I think it would be better for schools to try to effectively incorporate it into school instead of trying to pretend like it's they are the devil.

I don't want phones to just be lying out I just want things to go back the way they were. Take them out when the teacher tells you. No phones when they don't, no phones during passing period, no phones during lunch. I just want them to be used academically becaue I truly due believe that phones give us countless benefits that would be silly just to pass up because a few students miss use them. I'm fine with not using my phone during class. Im Fine with putting them away and out of sight but phones can also be used academically.

At my school we always have a limited amount of computers so when the whole class needs to read an artical we have 2 options. 1: print out and waste a mass amount of paper or 2: use our limited amount of computers which are often times out batter, have missing keys, or randomly have to reboot.

Now imagine if the students who had phones were allowed to use them to read the artical instead of having to spend 15 trying to find a suitable computer. That would save paper and time.
