Don't Give City Light Chief a 45% Raise

Don't Give City Light Chief a 45% Raise
The Issue
We the undersigned object to the proposed 45% salary increase being considered for Seattle City Light CEO/GM Jorge Carrasco.
•There are many underpaid and undervalued workers at the utility who have been waiting for years to get market rate adjustments to their wages and are still waiting. These are the workers who keep the lights on and the utility humming.
•Rank and file employees have lost wages because of furloughs, layoffs, significantly increased pension contributions, and cost of living adjustments that don’t keep up with real inflation. Upper management was not part of the furloughs or layoffs.
•This is a public utility and we should not be paying Wall Street salaries to our executives.
•Officials must fix City Light’s gender pay gap, one of the worst in the city.
•Before we spend big bucks on the CEO/GM’s salary, we need to look at the health of the entire utility, including a pay-equity study based on race and age.
•City Light customers deserve and expect top notch service which requires more hands-on workers and less management bloat.
•The utility needs to stop contracting out jobs because existing workers do it cheaper and better.
•The increased pay inequity between Mr. Carrasco and the rest of the workforce will further erode employee morale and customer confidence.
•Paying the City Light chief over $170 an hour when many workers in the city won't see the $15 minimum wage for ten years is appalling.
