Remove Adam Wan from his position as development head.

The Issue

Sean Piche, also known as Dragoneer, the owner and operator of furry community website FurAffinity, has chosen accused sexual predator Adam Wan to head the development of the new version of the site. We, the undersigned feel that this decision is unethical, insensitive, and dangerous.

On January 15th, 2014, the website FurAffinity, which claims to be the largest active community site for the furry fandom, announced that it would be beginning a complete overhaul of their website called Project Pheonix. On the list of staff for this project, Adam Wan (known in the community as Zaush) was listed as Development Head. Mr. Wan has been accused of rape, and is also on record belittling victims of sexual harrassment, and as such his placement in this role is completely inappropriate.

We do not claim to pass sentence on Mr. Wan; whether he has or has not done what he is accused of is for the law to decide. We feel that it is unfortunate, one way or another, that the events involving him have unfolded the way they have, and that justice will likely never be meted out in any case.

However, regardless of that, FurAffinity is a service-based community website that connects hundreds of thousands of users. As users of that site, we feel that the controversy surrounding Mr. Wan cannot be ignored, and that it is inappropriate to place a person so accused into a position of power.

On the one front, we feel that the choice of Mr. Wan as development head demonstrates a degree of indifference for the opinions of the users that borders on contempt. We are insulted that, knowing that Mr. Wan was so accused and that his position of authority would make us deeply uncomfortable, he was hired anyway.

In addition, given the nature of Mr. Wan's accusations, there is a potential threat to users of the site and to other administrators who answer to him. It is the nature of the furry community to come together in physical spaces at conventions and the like; with Mr. Wan in an administrative position, he is now capable of using his power to elicit sexual favors from users and other administrators by threatening them with ostracization from the community. He has the power to silence those presenting evidence of any misconduct. This is unacceptable.

Finally, Piche has already demonstrated his willingness to attempt to cover up these accusations, hiding, banning, and dismissing those who make claims against Mr. Wan and against Piche's decision. This is a further breach of our trust. When an administration cannot stand up to the scrutiny of its critics, to the point where the only course the administration deems appropriate is censorship, that administration has become a threat to its userbase.

We, the undersigned, hold again that Piche's administration is partaking in unethical, insensitive, and dangerous practices, and we demand that they resign Mr. Wan from his position and issue a formal apology for their actions. Further, we demand that the administration be held to a standard of transparency that they have claimed in the past that that they will honor: the administration should be required on demand to reveal any and all website material, including banned persons, hidden comments and journals and pages, and any other material so stifled.

We have chosen to deliver this petition because we believe that the FurAffinity administration has a responsibility to their users and to the community, and that they are flaunting it and damaging the already spurious reputation with which our community has to live. We deliver this petition in the hopes that they will do the right thing.

We are seeking 1000 signatures to deliver to Piche in evidence that this matter is important to a large portion of his userbase. We would like to deliver this petition in a timely manner, while the issue is still hot and before it's had a chance to be swept under the rug. Help us collect these signatures and let's make a difference at FurAffinity before it's too late.
