BLVD63 Early Lease Termination

The Issue

With the recent COVID-19 outbreak and measures implemented to reduce transmission rates, many lives are affected, specifically San Diego State University students. SDSU has currently compensated students who live in all SDSU affiliated housing by providing them with full refunds and flexible lease cancellations. Other housing companies like BLVD63, however, have not accommodated its tenants (most of which are students from San Diego State University) during the COVID-19 crisis.

Many of us live away from our family and with this urgent issue we are torn from staying here alone or going to our hometown with our families. SDSU students have already been strongly encouraged to go back home to our hometowns and move out since Wednesday March 18. And us SDSU students sit here watching our colleagues comfortably and freely move out, while we struggle having to find someone to take over our lease and we have no other choice to find a subleaser or pay. Many of us are students as well who have lost our jobs temporarily during this pandemic and that helps us pay for our apartment. During this time we are out of a job and same time can not come home to our families right away.

We have made this petition because we believe that something should be done for SDSU students who live in off-campus housing. While we each signed contracts agreeing that we would pay rent until the lease ends, we did not foresee the events caused by the COVID-19 outbreak. More specifically, COVID-19 has affected the economy causing students to lose their jobs and be unable to afford rent or high-priced lease termination fees.

Please help us by signing this petition and help us students get home safely to our families and help with our early lease termination.
