#SDSAM Stop Deciding Student's Appearance Movement

The Issue

Hey everyone, let's talk about something exciting – the birth of a movement that's been a long time coming. We've all had enough of the uniform struggle, right? Well, here's the game-changer – the Stop Deciding Students' Appearance Movement, or SDSAM!

So, why SDSAM? Because it's high time we take charge of how we look. Schools might have had their say for way too long, but who are they to dictate our appearance? In a country that champions freedom and liberty, it's us – the students – who should rightfully be in the driver's seat when it comes to deciding how we present ourselves.

The SDSAM movement isn't just about saying no to uniforms; it's about saying yes to individuality, diversity, and our right to define our own appearance. We're putting the power back where it belongs – in the hands of the students.

Let us also know why SDSAM is against uniforms and the disciplinary actions in students' appearance:

  1. Uniforms make poor people, poorer. Yes! No economic equality! It's all a myth. Let's understand this with an example. A family of rich economic condition would easily be able to buy different kinds of uniforms or school dresses for their children. On the other hand, for a family which is actually poor, it is a headache for the family to buy their children school dresses, that too which has its own types like "Original Uniform", "Sports Uniform", "Tracksuit Uniform", "Winter Uniform" and "Summer Uniform". So just tell me. You're saying that uniforms promote economic equality. Well, this example just showed us that it indeed actually makes a poor family poorer when they have to buy uniforms.
  2. The concept of 'uniformity' is SEXIST. Ask this to any student studying in any school, and ask them whether girls or female students are regulated more often in case of uniforms and appearance. "Child, your skirt length is not proper" or "Beta, your hair is not properly tied". Now, on the other hand, there are very less regulations and rules for uniformity in boys or male students. And what we see right here is PARTIALITY. Now tell me, how can schools talk about equality and be against discrimination while they themselves discriminate students on the basis of gender. The reason for this discrimination: Concept of Uniformity.
  3. School dresses block "Right to Freedom of Expression". Again, Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution of India guarantees all citizens the right to freedom of speech and expression. You can go and read the constitution to check this official right determined by the Constitution of India. But now, this right to freedom of expression is blocked and suppressed by the School Rules and regulations. And this is the condition of almost all schools in India. A student cannot wear or look how he/she wants to, rather has to follow the useless rules of the School Uniform.
  4. They want to do their marketing or advertising with uniform and school dresses. Just like brands put their name and logo on their carrybags, in a similar way, school want to print their theme colour patterns and their logo and name on the uniforms. They say they do so to form an "institutional identity". But that's exactly what you call MARKETING or ADVERTISING.
  5. They are paid to dictate over us. Imagine an authority imposing rules and regulations on us, and we are freaking paying them fees for that! Instead of imposing discipline on the things which really matter like teaching, learning and practice for students, they impose discipline on the WAY WE LOOK.
  6. The Concept of Uniforms came from our past colonial British Rule. Don't believe it? But yes, our educational model is based on the colonial educational model that which British introduced in our country when they ruled over us. But as of the 21st century, we have changed so many things! We changed colonial city and town names, changed roads and institutes names, and what not. But we still follow the useless and stupid system of Uniforms. While you won't believe, most of the British schools today have erased the uniform systems in them!

Why should schools decide how we look? No, don't take this lightly. Who the heck is a SCHOOL, to dictate or determine how we, students will look like? And the worst part is that we pay them fees, to control us on how we look like. Bullshit. Who granted them the authority to shape our appearance in a nation that thrives on freedom and liberty? SDSAM is here to challenge that authority and compel the Educational System of India or Educational Culture to rewrite the rules.

Launching an anti-uniform petition isn't just a call to action; it's a declaration that the time for change is now. We're standing up against the status quo and demanding an education system that truly embraces our individuality. No more conforming to a single mould – the winds of change are blowing, and SDSAM is leading the charge.

So, join the movement, sign the petition, and let's make some noise. SDSAM is more than a protest against uniforms; it's a movement to reclaim our right to decide how we present ourselves. Bid farewell to uniforms and usher in a new era where students seize control. Let's amplify our voices, make our presence felt, and reshape the educational landscape to truly respect our freedom and diversity. The time for SDSAM is now – let's embrace it!
