Let Christopher Crean Rest In Peace - Dear Screentime NZ stop the production of Resolve

The Issue

Recently we have been made aware that neither his mother or siblings have been approached about Screentime NZ’s planned TV Movie ‘Resolve’ that recently received funding from NZ on Air.

Chris’s mother and siblings were not approached by anyone about this project and have not given permission for this to go ahead. We are asking for your help by signing this petition to have the production of the movie stopped so that Chris can Rest in Peace and his family can continue with their lives without a constant reminder of what happened to Chris being thrown in their face.

Post from the family:

Robert Crean - taken from his Facebook post, posted Sept 8 2016 that has been shared over 100 times.

I am Chrisie's younger brother. I am writing this statement on behalf of my mother, siblings and myself. It is a long read but we need help to stop this drama from being produced for the simple fact that, Chrisie would never have wanted this and it is time he be left to lay in peace.

We want to make it very clear to NZ on Air and Screentime New Zealand and the public, we as Christopher Crean's immediate family, have in no way, shape or form, given consent for this drama to be produced and do not agree with it being done.

Through friends and family we heard about this story and are extremely heartbroken to think that this could occur without our consent, which would and will not be given.

Today I received a text message from, Tania, Chrisie's widow:

"I will not be doing anything with the sensible sentencing people as ......... it's time for everyone to forgive and move forward. This is what the film drama is about."

This is our families reply to Tania and the reason we have gone public with this is in the hope she will listen:

Having a drama series produced about this is not the way to forgiveness, forgiveness needs to be found by one's self and in ones own time, not in a public arena.

Our mother did the interview with TV One News to try and fight for justice for her son and gained no monetary benefits from this as she did it for her son, not herself.

The definition of a drama is " A real life situation which is exaggerated yet relatable, through the use of themes, settings, issues and narrative"

This drama will not be a way of moving forward towards your own forgiveness, that needs to be found by you and only you, which brings us to wonder what your true motives of doing this is for.

For our brother, our parents son, to be used in this way is truly unthinkable as everyone who knew Chrisie knows this is not what he would have wanted.

Every year it was our Mother and late Father who attended numerous amounts of parole hearings, every single year for the past 18 years and never missed one! This burdon caused by the 4 men involved has now been left to our mother who continues the fight of justice for her son and has been attending numerous parole hearings for the past 2 years without our late father by her side.

Not once have you ever attended or showen support to help in the fight for justice of your late husband, Christopher.

If you truly belived this drama was a way of moving on then why did you not consult us as his immediate family before giving your consent to, Screentime New Zealand?

We are truly speechless with this whole ordeal and ask you look to god and seek the true answer to do right by Chrisie and withdraw your consent that you have given on your own accord.

In our heart's we hope you see sense and let Chrisie be at peace.

History of the case:

In 1996 Christopher Crean witnessed a gang related attack in his neighbourhood. He made the decision to come forward and be a witness. This led to retaliation from the gang. “Christopher was set to testify against the gang and they wanted him silenced, even if it meant killing other members of the family to do so” [see link: http://www.stuff.co.nz/taranaki-daily-news/news/9699769/Sad-legacy-of-gangs-execution ] Chris was killed by gang members in October 1996.

Chris’s parents Liz and Mike (up until his death two years ago) have attended every single parole hearing for the four men convicted of their sons murder to express their wishes that they not be released, especially not released in the Taranaki area. “Mrs Crean said having a condition in place preventing her son’s killers from coming near their homes and lives would bring closure. “Why should they come home when Chris can’t?” [extract taken from http://www.nzherald.co.nz/stratford-press/news/article.cfm?c_id=1503390&objectid=11648629 ]
