This petition is to promote and encourage the opening of our schools and return to in-person teaching. SSD needs to be made aware of parents frustration with the fact that no real progress has been made. The Scranton School District has had a full year of closed schools to repair issues in buildings and construct a plan for our children's return to school. Covid related issues, asbestos and mold issues in buildings, conduct air quality tests, teacher/staff and student/family willingness on returning to school, and a plan to accommodate a full and safe return should have all been figured out at this point.  Other school districts have returned to school successfully. Why not us? Why are our children being given the short end of the stick? Why were elementary schools planning on return and even announcing a date and now the district is back pedaling? What happened? Why did it happen? It is simply unacceptable. Parents, grandparents, caretakers, teachers, other essential SSD workers, taxpayers and most of all students deserve an explanation as to why it is being taken away before it is even being given a chance. The community of the Scranton School District is tired of excuses, exhausted from not knowing the actually truth of what's going on and the gross disservice of our children's educations and future success.  We DESERVE answers. Our children DESERVE answers. Why was the last year wasted?  The SSD has failed to plan and planned to fail and the push back from the SFT is causing any hope of return to school improbable. It is unacceptable.
