Scottsdale has chosen that as playgrounds throughout the city are renovated and updated with new equipment, sand will no longer be the ground cover.  The city will be covering the ground with wood chips instead of sand.

The kids love playing in sand and is one of the major reasons that kids love playing at the park, especially the little ones who are too young to enjoy the other equipment.  Wood chips are uncomfortable to sit on, leave splinters, and most importantly, cannot be played with!

Additionally, an arm fracture is 4.9 times more likey to happen from a fall on wood chips instead of sand!

The citizens of Scottsdale want to keep sand as the ground cover in our parks!
