Explain why the CfE Higher English Exam was so Difficult and was Altered

With less than 48 hours notice before the CfE Higher English exam, candidates had additional stress and pressure put on them when they found out that the Higher English exam had been leaked and so changes had been made to it. Exam time is already stressful enough without the additional stress and worry that these circumstances caused so many candidates across the country. To simply issue a statement of reassurance and to say not to be anxious or worried is not good enough and the SQA must take these unforeseen circumstances into account, not only when they are marking candidates exam papers but also when they are setting the grade boundaries.

In addition to this, the SQA must explain why there was very little resemblance of the exam we sat today in comparison to the specimen paper, exemplar paper and even last year's 2015 paper, specifically in paper 1 (Reading for Understanding, Analysis and Evaluation) which included questions that had not been available for practice anywhere before or taught to pupils in how they would tackle these questions.

Candidates confidence has been knocked as a result of both the last minute changes to the exam paper and the lack of resemblance of the exam paper in comparison with previous exam papers. The SQA must take action on this and take this into account when marking and setting grade boundaries for CfE Higher English.
