Legalise cannabis for recreational use in Scotland

The Issue

People should be allowed to use cannabis recreationally - in the same way that they are allowed to use alcohol and tobacco.

many countries have already legalised cannabis/thc for recreational use, and their continues to be more and more studies carried out on the safety and medicinal uses of the plant.

There are no recorded deaths due to fatal marajuana overdose. Yet hundreds of thousands die from alcoholism every year.

at present, people in Scotland that use cannabis are forced to buy it from illegal dealers. They don’t know what they are getting, how it’s been handled, if it’s been treated with harmful pesticides or is organically grown. And dealers often sell other illegal drugs as well exposing cannabis users to things like cocaine and heroin.

if people were able to purchase and use legally, they could buy from a licensed seller, and get something that is safe and traceable.

legalising cannabis for recreational use would also generate millions of pounds annually in tax revenue (the same way alcohol and tobacco does) for the Scottish government.

CBD oil has already been legalised as a food supplement which is a step in the right direction, but making cannabis available legally and safely for adults in this country in my opinion could help so many more individuals with serious health issues.

it is 2020, and it’s time that we were able to use cannabis legally, the same way that millions are allowed to use alcohol.
