Allow YouTube on the 'Inspire Learning' iPads

The Issue

This is based on the experience and knowledge of an S4 pupil at Earlston High School

Recently, the Scottish Borders Council have partnered up with XMA and CGI to start the 'inspire learning' program. This program has a goal of giving around 9,000 iPads to each school pupil aged 11-17

This petition is to unblock YouTube’s platform from the inspire learning iPads and allow pupils to learn through the future of education.

youtube.com is home to millions of educational videos which help pupils to learn any topic in any subject. YouTube offers free educational support for people to boost their exam results.
It also offers mental health support and educates pupils on their physical health.

However the Scottish Borders council have decide to block this platform to the iPad owners of the Scottish Borders . As far as I’m aware, the council have full control over these decisions and considering that the schools wifi and schools computers allows complete access to YouTube. What’s the problem with the same access on these touch screen computers.

Use of YouTube at home is widespread across the school and I could guarantee that every pupil has used this platform and has benefited from it in knowledge

YouTube is a platform like no other it is by far safer than any other video posting platform out there. They take pride in their high tech algorithms that can instantly identify inappropriate content and prevent them from surfacing on their platform. They also have ownership of some of the strictest guidelines the internet has seen, having age verification and placing a forceful stance on content creators to not use inappropriate language in their videos or else they face demonisation. This website promotes fun and positivity and provides a more interactive way of learning than a sheet of paper.

YouTubes educational benefits are immeasurable. These iPads were brought in to broaden and change the way we learn. To “inspire learning”. So why are we putting limits on our pupils learning.
