Repeal the National Firearms Agreement Australia 1996.

The issue

Right now, in Australia, there are more guns in the hands of lawful firearm owners than before the 1996 NFA was forced through parliament. For over 20 years lawful firearm owners have had their ownership of firearms further restricted and tightly controlled, and yet it has had no impact on the rate of illegal firearms in the hands of criminals, nor has it improved crime statistics at all, in fact the rate at which murders and crimes in the country have been committed has been on a steady decline since before the 1996 NFA and after the NFA.

As a supporter of firearm ownership and the rights of those who own firearms i see it as my duty to bring to your attention that its time the rights were handed back to the lawful firearm owners.

1. Abolish Permits to Acquire. They are unnecessary, and serve only to increase the amount of red tape and costs involved in legal firearm ownership.

2. Total repeal of the banning of all rimfire semi auto's of not more than 15 rounds and move them to cat A and B licence holders.

3. Total repeal of the banning of semi auto shotguns and pump action shotguns of not more than 6 rounds, and move them to cat A and B licence holders.

4. Deregulate Airsoft and declare it legal to own and use at 18 years of age or older. Airsoft is a very popular sport in New Zealand and the UK. With it being made legal in Australia, it will create jobs as Airsoft toy and accessory construction could begin here in Australia.

5. Lift all restrictions on handguns and handgun sizes and calibers.

6. Keep in place the same laws on handgun requirements for training and safety, and safe storage and registration.

7. When it comes to firearm registration, repeal all long arm registration. It does nothing to improve public safety as criminals do not obey laws and it only impacts lawful gun owners. Maintain handgun registration, and make it a legal requirement that all firearm thefts be reported to the police immediately.

8 Increase the penalties for improper firearm use i.e. robberies and assaults to include life in jail, without the possibility for parole. Remember, it is the criminal who does not obey firearm laws, not the lawful firearm owners.
