Tens of thousands of sharks are killed every day to satisfy the market for products such as shark fin soup. The fins are hacked off and the shark thrown back into the water to die a slow, painful death. 

While the practice of shark finning is banned in Australia, the import and sale of shark fin soup is a legal, active trade. 

Shark finning is driving shark populations to near extinction. As the top end predator, sharks have a vital role in maintaining the health of the oceans and the other life they support, including humans. 

Australia should not be complicit, nor participating, in this trade.
