Queensland RSL has given some clarity to yesterday’s decision to water down ANZAC Day activities and has also passed the baton off to the ANZAC Day Parade Committee. This does not include other states, just Queensland. So from my point of view it’s a bit of a win. Push your local RSL’s to conduct these events.

the following is an email received this afternoon.

Dear Members,

I am writing to follow up on my message to members yesterday regarding plans for ANZAC Day in Queensland in 2021.

Some national media have been reporting that OTHER States have decided to cancel ANZAC Day marches. That is NOT the case in Queensland.

In fact, the ANZAC Day parade in Brisbane is organised by the ANZAC Day Parade Committee, in conjunction with Queensland Health and the Department of Premiers and Cabinet. RSL Queensland will be a guest participant in that parade. However, we are not the organisers.

We have been advised by the ANZAC Day Parade Committee that they are planning a parade at the RNA Showgrounds, broadcast to the general public. Of course, their plans as organisers are subject to any last minute public health restrictions at the time.

As noted in the email I sent to you yesterday, we are currently working with our District and Sub Branch Network to discuss potential local commemorative activities, with the health and safety of our veterans and community members first and foremost in mind.

We will publish a map of services and activities across the State when these details are finalised and confirmed with Sub Branches. As a supplement to local commemoration activities, we will once again - by popular demand from the community - assist with a Light Up the Dawn marketing campaign for those who wish to show their support for veterans in this way.

In all of our planning, the health and wellbeing of our members and the general public is foremost in our thoughts. We are committed to helping all Queenslanders unite safely to show their respect and appreciation for our veterans this ANZAC Day.

We’ll continue to use the fortnightly Member Update email as a primary communication channel and we’ll also be staying in close communication with your District on any updates.

Thank you,

Tony Ferris
State President
RSL Queensland
