Scorton & Brompton on Swale Safe Cycleway & footpath to Richmond
The Issue
Please sign this petition to tell your elected representatives that to look after our health and well being we need an alternative to motorised transport into Richmond from Scorton and Brompton on Swale in the form of a short, safe cycle and pedestrian route.
There have been a number of attempts to get a safe cycling route between Scorton, Brompton on Swale and Richmond over many years. A short and safe route would enable school children to ride to Richmond Schools and workers to their jobs in Richmond. Most have been thwarted by a lack of funds and support by local council groups (Most of the Richmondshire Together and Conservative Groups failed to support a motion to encourage more investment in cycling routes proposed at Richmondshire District Council by your Independent Local Councillor Leslie Rowe as recently as December 2019).
However, the Government recently announced that cycle and bus-only corridors will be created in England within weeks as part of a £250 million emergency active travel fund - the first stage of a £2 billion investment.

Local Councils has now been ordered by the Government to reallocate road space for significantly-increased numbers of cyclists and pedestrians. Now is the ideal opportunity for residents of Scorton and Brompton on Swale to come together to call for a safe cycling route to Richmond that doesn't take them miles out of their way. Much of the route had been agreed in the past and the key may just be a simple bailey bridge over Skeeby Beck. So please, sign this petition!
