The Bornean orangutans (Pongo pygmaeus) have been listed by the UUCN as a critically endangered species since 2008. Now more than ever these intelligent animals need your help. The population has been decreasing rapidly in recent years due to habitat destruction caused by the production of palm oil. These large-bodied apes are found in the rain forests of the Southeast Asian islands of Borneo. However, palm oil plantations and other agricultural developments clear more than one million acres on average each year which Is diminishing the orangutan population expeditiously. The Bornean orangutans play an important role in seed dispersal and in maintaining the health of the forest ecosystem, which is vital for people and several other animals. By conserving the orangutan's habitat, we are also benefiting local communities and other species around the world. If the orangutan species is to survive in the wild, protection, and conservation of their natural habitats are a necessity. Avoiding products that contain palm oil, practicing sustainable shopping choices, and spreading awareness to bigger organizations can help drastically. Please sign and share this petition, it’s up to you to save these amazing species!
