Schools in India must have hospital tie ups for emergency student situations

The Issue

As parents, we send our children to school believing it’s a safe place—a haven where they can learn, grow, and thrive. We trust that in our absence, the school will protect our children and act swiftly in times of need. But what happens when that trust is broken?"
"Recently, our 10yr old daughter experienced a traumatic head injury at jbcn international school, borivali, Mumbai. My wife received a call telling her that our daughter was ‘a little hurt.’ But when my wife arrived at the school, her heart sank. Our daughter had a deep cut on her skull, bleeding profusely. The staff was vague, the principal was absent, and critical medical care was delayed for almost 35 minutes. A delay that could have proven fatal. When my wife finally reached Karuna hospital after another 20 minutes in traffic in her own car with no support from the school in clearing the school traffic even,  our daughter was given 8 stiches in her head which were removed after 12 days. The size of the wound and continuous bleeding made the doctor on duty ask us to do even a CT Scan. She became extremely weak and could not even smile because her head used to pain because of stiches. We do not know what future complications if any can arise because of this injury.
To make matters worse, in the moments when my child needed compassion and care, she was met with yelling instead. The swimming coach, rather than attending to her injury, chose to scold her. This was a time for empathy and action, but the response was heartless and shocking.
Not only was there a lack of empathy and urgency, but there has been no accountability. No sincere apology. No acknowledgment of the trauma they caused—not just to our daughter but to our entire family.
Our daughter has been forced to leave her familiar surroundings, her friends, and her comfort zone. She now bears the physical pain of her injury and the emotional trauma of what happened that day. She’ll need counseling, not just to heal but to transition to a new school.
Every school must have clear safety protocols, trained staff, and immediate response plans. Accountability isn’t optional—it’s essential. We cannot allow another child to suffer due to negligence. The safety of our children cannot be an afterthought.
Join us in demanding change. Speak up. Ask the tough questions. Together, we can ensure schools prioritize safety and have robust emergency protocols to protect our children. It’s time to hold schools accountable. It’s time to make a difference. Let’s build a safer future for every child.
