School Streets Scheme, Bus Lanes and Car Rental Company affecting Redbridge

School Streets Scheme, Bus Lanes and Car Rental Company affecting Redbridge
The Issue
Petition to Redbridge Council: Stop the Mismanagement of School Streets Schemes Affecting Redbridge
To: Redbridge Council, Transport for London (TfL), and Local Authorities
Cc: Wes Streeting MP for Ilford North
We, the undersigned residents and supporters, are calling for urgent review and action regarding the serious negative impact of the School Streets schemes implemented around Redbridge Primary School and Beal High School.
While the intentions behind these schemes may be well-meaning, the real-world consequences for Redbridge have been damaging, dangerous, and unacceptable, including:
Increased traffic congestion and noise pollution as our road is used as a cut-through.
Driveways frequently blocked, restricting access for emergency and NHS key workers.
Child safety compromised by vehicles backing into driveways without caution.
Cars speeding through the road, which is exempt from restrictions, putting all pedestrians at risk.
Otto Car, a rental business, parking fleets of vehicles on our street, worsening the parking crisis.
Total lack of effective response from Redbridge Council, TfL, or other local authorities.
These schemes have reduced quality of life, endangered residents, and failed to deliver the promised safety improvements. Instead, they’ve simply pushed the problem onto nearby residential roads like ours.
We Demand:
An immediate review of the School Streets scheme’s impact on Redbridge and the surrounding area.
Proper consultation with affected residents before any further measures are implemented.
Enforcement against inconsiderate and commercial parking (e.g. Otto Car).
Traffic calming and child safety measures implemented for Ridgeway Gardens itself.
Transparent communication and accountability from Redbridge Council.
We have already written to our MP Wes Streeting and contacted the BBC and Ilford Recorder to raise awareness.
We ask Redbridge Council to listen to our voices, address the damage being caused, and work with us—not against us—for a safer, more liveable neighbourhood.
