Who is impacted?

The Muslim students and families within the Blue Valley School District are concretely affected by the current lack of recognition for Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha as holidays. For these individuals, these religious celebrations hold deep cultural and spiritual significance. Currently, these students face the dilemma of either attending school or observing their religious duties, which can create a sense of exclusion and marginalization within the Blue Valley School District .

What is at stake?

If the status quo remains unchanged, it means perpetuating a system where certain religious groups are not afforded the same recognition and accommodation as others. By not acknowledging Eid as a holiday, we risk marginalizing Muslim students and families, sending a message that their traditions and beliefs are not valued or respected. On the other hand, by granting Eid as a holiday, we signal our commitment to fostering an inclusive environment where all students feel a sense of belonging and acceptance.
