School Maintenance

The Issue

We, the students, teachers, parents,  and school community members of George Washington High School, call upon and petition for the improvement of maintenance services within our school.

George Washington High school (GWHS )is a place of learning and growth within the community. However, the current state of maintenance in our school is not able to meet the standards required for a more safer and helpful learning environment.

Common issues within the school, such as broken facilities, leaky roofs, malfunctioning electrical systems, and poor cleaning services on school campus have been ongoing concerns that are affecting the well-being and education of everyone in our school community.

In a recent survey of students and staff at George Washington High School, the majority expressed overwhelming concern about the poor state of the school maintenance. 82% of respondents reported that they believe GWHS is in need of better maintenance. 87.5% of respondents reported that building maintenance in the school should include repairing and maintaining any building systems. Many participants also reported that rebuilding school campuses and repairing infrastructure are top two solutions they believe can improve the schools’ overall maintenance.

This survey's results clearly demonstrated the urgent need for improved maintenance at GWHS. The school community is suffering due to the neglected state of the facility, which is negatively impacting the learning experiences and overall well-being of many students, teachers, and other staff.

We, the community of GWHS, call upon the school administration and authorities to prioritize and invest in the maintenance of George Washington High school to benefit all. Together, we can create a safer, healthier, and a more improved learning environment for everyone.
