While this petition is directed at a specific school and school district, it also has the main goal to spread support for the increase of recycling bins throughout schools. The environmental impact of producing so much waste is extreme and not thought about as much as it should. By encouraging kids to throw away plastic bottles and paper instead of recycling them because of convenience, is teaching a mindset to those students that recycling isn't that important. The waste people create does not just go away when it is thrown in the trash, it instead infects the area it is dumped and some of it may never decompose. And while waste can not be eliminated yet, we can start teaching the mindset of waste management and environmental protection starting with giving access to recycling bins in a place where kids spend so much time, the school. Helping save the environment is a big endeavor but it starts with actions like adding more access to recycling bins so that the bad habits created by just using a trash can can change before they become too involved in the person's life.
