I’m a parent of 2 boys Gregor and Andrew . My oldest is at Mearns Castle and youngest at Maidenhill. We bought our new home in the Maidenhill development after reading the masterplan and hoping to be part of a safe , family friendly community with access to good schools. 

For a year with the help of neighbours I drive my son to school and often pick him up. I see a significant amount of cars doing the same (@2.6miles each way). For people that live here you will know how exposed we are to the elements. We are at the top of a hill near a massive wind farm after all.

After numerous calls and emails to the council requesting a possible subsidised bus from Maidenhill to Mearns Castle High there position is clear. They will not offer a school bus as we are not entitled to it . There solution is that I’ve to walk my child along the busy road to supervise his safety back and forwards 4 times a day. 

There are no SPT buses in the development yet even though the East Renfrewshire Council Maidenhill Masterplan suggested there would initially be subsidised buses.

Option 1

My petition is that there should be a subsidised school bus from Maidenhill to Mearns Castle High.

Option 2 

Start a First Bus from the Maidenhill development that the kids can use there young Scot card to get free travel some of the way.
