Save The Grand Hotel Scarborough
The Issue
The Grand Hotel has got to be one of most iconic hotels in the UK and a jewel on the Scarborough coastline. Steeped in history and built with ingenious architectural design, the Grand deserves to be cherished and cared for, for people to enjoy for many years to come. Unfortunately over the years we have seen the Grand turn into a state of disrepair, and under the current management of Britannia Hotels, horror stories of the poor condition of the hotel, paired with ridiculous wait times and unforgivable customer service, is further harming the reputation of this beautiful building. Here is a recent article from a stay July 2021.
The harm however doesn't end there. These experiences are ruining people's holidays, their memories and impressions of Scarborough as a whole. On Tripadvisor the hotel is currently rated 2.5/5. There are 9085 reviews and 3792 of those rate it 'Terrible', with headlines including words like 'avoid', 'dump' and 'dirty'. All of this negativity will in turn effect people's decisions to visit the Grand and maybe even Scarborough in general. This will then impact on our local businesses and local economy, and, God forbid, even result in the Grand being flattened like The Futurist.
I'm proud to be a Yorkshirewoman and just as proud to be Scarborian and feel that we need to look after each other and our local businesses and economy. I ask Britannia Hotels to face up to the reviews of the hotel and take responsibility for its disarray and its impacts on the local area and reputation. I ask the local councils and our MP what can be done to support this and if they even care that one of our most historic buildings is being allowed to fall apart.
Please sign this petition if you care about the local economy, local businesses and our iconic local history. We must not let the Grand Hotel get into further disrepair and become something people only talk about negatively and with disgust. Scarborough is beautiful, its people are amazing and together I'm sure we can make the Grand live up to its name again.
