Say "YES" to a Cannabis Dispensary on Roosevelt Island!
Say "YES" to a Cannabis Dispensary on Roosevelt Island!
The Issue
To Community Board 8 and the Office of Cannabis Management:
We, the undersigned, residents and friends of Roosevelt Island, urge you to approve the proposal to open a Cannabis Dispensary at 520 Main Street on Roosevelt Island. Our reasons are as follows:
Roosevelt Island is a very small adult community: according to the 2020 Census 75% of Island apartments do not contain a child under the age of 18.
As a very small community, it is difficult to find businesses who are willing to operate on the Island with a limited customer base.
Many adults benefit from legal cannabis, contributing to their health and mood.
Customers from Roosevelt Island will no longer have to travel elsewhere to procure cannabis, lessening the burden on our overcrowded public transportation.
Having a dispensary within walking distance will lighten traffic on the Island as residents will no longer need to have cannabis delivered from off-Island dispensaries.
Currently there are a number of vacant storefronts on the Island, reducing vibrancy and options for the Island. Empty businesses can attract graffiti, debris, and crime. The Island should embrace businesses which are willing to locate here as they will energize the community.
Please respect the wishes of our community!
