Say NO to the use of the Bluebonnet curriculum in Texas schools
The Issue
As a student currently in the Texas public education system, I need your help to say NO to the use of the Bluebonnet curriculum in Texas schools. It is damaging to students' learning and, if more schools implement it, may further degrade the educational system experience for students in Texas..
Teaching isn't something that can be scripted. While one student may be able to learn from the curriculum effectively, many others may not.
The Bluebonnet curriculum, widely implemented across school districts in Texas, gives the impression of enhancing learning through a standardized approach. However, in reality, it stifles teachers' creativity and restricts students' critical thinking skills. Texas teachers are forced to adhere to a rigid set of guidelines that prioritize rote memorization over deep understanding of subjects, ultimately hindering our children's ability to develop essential problem-solving skills. A one-size-fits-all teaching model overshadows the individuality and potential of each child. Additionally, the curriculum includes references to the Bible in elementary-level learning, which young kids don't need to be taught in school.
Texas is a diverse state, with people from over 150 different countries calling it home. Christianity isn't the only religion, and shouldn't be treated as such.
Religion has no place in the public education system, especially in such a diverse population.
"Bluebonnet has been widely criticized for including disproportional references to Christianity and Biblical stories in elementary literacy materials," one parent told board members during Houston ISD's board meeting on June 25th, 2026.
Our educational system must embrace a more flexible and dynamic curriculum that allows teachers to tailor their instruction to the diverse needs of their students. We need a curriculum that encourages innovation, creativity, and the development of critical thinking skills. By collaborating with educators, parents, and policymakers, we can design a curriculum that truly prepares your children for the future.
The future of Texas's children, including myself, is at stake. I call on the Texas Education Agency to reevaluate and ultimately discontinue the use of the Bluebonnet curriculum in our schools. Our children deserve an education that inspires and motivates them, not one that is scripted and non-personal.
